Task ( 1 Hour): Begin observational study of chosen image by chosen artist. Draw lightly in pencil (study should be no smaller than A5, no bigger than A4). Work in media appropriate to the artist - Acrylics or Watercolour paints. Reflect the artists style in your study.

Homework - Tuesday 25th October

Task: 

  1. Pick one observational study completed of natural forms.
  2. Photograph object (natural forms) from different viewpoints. (Can be different from original,ie not the same, exact shell!!)
  3. Print off photo's in colour.
  4. Produce observational studies of object from different viewpoints using pencil, (Experiment with different grades), charcoal, pencil crayon, pen.
This is a 2 week homework. Spend a minimum of 2 hours on this task!!!

Deadline : Tuesday 8th November.

Artist Analysis

Remember to use page 9 of your Student Handbook when writing your analysis on your chosen Artist.

Within the slideshow are some links to Youtube. Look at the sketchbook examples to guide you in how to present your work creatively. The examples selected achieved an A*. These clips will not work if viewed at college as Youtube is filtered.


Annotation

It is important that you annotate your work as it progresses to explain the thinking behind your work to your teacher and the examiner.

Pages 5, 6 and 7 of your student handbook will help you to do this successfully!!



Observational Studies

Presenting Observational Studies

In class, you have been presenting your observational studies of Natural Forms. Remember presentation of work is important. Presentation needs to be creative with appropriate annotation. Watch the slideshow for tips on how to present your drawings!


Homework set Tuesday 4th October


  1. Produce an observational study of your chosen image by your chosen Artist. Work on A4 Cartridge paper and use a material relevant to the artist and image (pencil, charcoal, pen & ink) DO NOT WORK DIRECTLY IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK!
  2. Ensure your Mindmap is finished and presented in your sketchbook (first page viewed)
  3. Make sure your work / targets set based on YSP visit/ YSP Artist Analysis is completed! (Use page 9 of student handbook and answer ALL questions in your own words!)
DEADLINE IS TUESDAY 25TH OCTOBER

Homework set Tuesday 27th September.

This week (week commencing the 26th September), you will be completing your observational studies of natural forms in dry materials (pencil, charcoal, pen, pencil crayon, oil pastel). In preparation for week commencing the 3rd October, you will be producing an Artist's Analysis, for homework, you need to look at artists who work in monochrome (black and white / shades of one colour). 
Task :
  1. Look at pages 1 to 15 of Powerpoint.
  2. Select an artist whose work you admire. (Karl Blossfeldt, Edward Weston or Ernst Haeckel OR an artist you find yourself)
  3. Print off a good reproduction of one example of their work no bigger than A5. You will be writing in depth about it so must like it!!
  4. Print off information about your chosen image and artist.
  5. Bring print outs to college on Monday 3rd October if you are in 10W, Tuesday 4th October if you are in 10Y.

Observational drawings with "dry materials".

Our new focus for the next few weeks is observational drawings and experimenting with materials and techniques! Check out this Powerpoint to give you some ideas!

Dont forget your A3 sketchbook, pencils, putty rubber, fineliner pen, pencil crayons (charcoal pencil and oil pastels if you purchased them!).

Homework, set Tuesday 6th September

Homework will be set every week on a Tuesday and you will be expected to spend approx. 1 hour per week on your GCSE Fine Art homework. 

The first task is creating surfaces to work on when we begin observational studies of Natural Forms week commencing 12th September. Here is more detailed information and some examples to guide you (look at the backgrounds, not the subject matter of the observational studies!!!): 


MindMapping!!

We spent our first lesson recording (in rough) ideas on a MindMap. The portfolio of work which is Component 1 of GCSE Fine Art is based on the theme of FORMS. There is information in your Student Handbook to help you with this but if you need more information, here is the powerpoint on MindMapping.

  • Basic equipment from your Art packs (pencil set, putty rubber, fineliner) (charcoal pencil if you purchased one)
